Xontae is a 68 year old San from the Ju|’hoansi tribe. His family raised him in this cave when he was a child, taking shelter here for the months when the rains came. Sometimes when the lions came, the men would hold up burning logs while the women took the children up the cliff through a hole in the back of the cave to safety.
From Tsodilo Hills to the western edge of the Okavango Delta, across to the Kwai River in the Mababe area and down to the Boteti River, these images are a record of the people and places in this vast wilderness under threat.
